No podium at Sepang 12 hour 2009![]() After a successful campaign in the 12 hour race at the Merdeka Millenium Endurance at Sepang in Malaysia in 2008. Barton was hoping for similar success this year as the event celebrated its 10th anniversary on August 6-8. Going with the same car and team, Wall Racing and their Porsche 996 RSR all the ingredients were there for more success. Practice through the week proved troublesome with some minor engine problems. The team were still confident for the weekend. The team took a real blow in Qualifying however. Barton and David Wall had completed their respective qualifying sessions and had a top 10 starting position lined up. Before the third driver in the team, Des Wall had a chance to qualify trouble hit. The air box had broken up allowing a bolt insert to get sucked into the engine. This immediately damaged the engine beyond use and put the team out of the event before the race had even started.. “This is really gut wrenching for the whole team. We were really looking forward to a good race like last year and we have been forced to miss the race”. Barton has another long distance race scheduled on 3rd October at the famous Nordshcleife/Old Nurgburgring. The 4 hour race will be in a Porsche 997 Cup Car which is familiar territory for Barton. “I am really looking forward to this race. I would love to do the 24 hour race at the old Nurburgring one day and this is a great way to learn the circuit and see how it all works”.
